Essential oil companies do an initial MS (mass spectroscopy) test, and then file the results away and only do a GC (gas chromatography) test on subsequent batches. GC cannot determine whether a substance is natural or synthetic nor can it determine if the oil is pure or if it has the correct constituents. Further, because the MS test is expensive it eliminates most of the essential oil companies from wanting to conduct it on every batch. The GC test is not as expensive. To maintain the highest quality in the industry, doTERRA is the ONLY Company that has both MS and GS run on EVERY batch of oil. With MS there are six different tests run per batch and these tests are done by independent testing companies, outside of doTERRA.
